I believe that it is important to not necessarily over-embellished objects - to keep a certain truth to a product, but i also believe that objects need to touch our sensual side, they need to elevate certain experience, and they need to be human.

I also believe that objects should be casual, simple, soft but precise. I placed an analog mechanism in a perfect ovaloid that is symbolic of technology, the cosmos, passage andcyclic nature of Time.

Bucuresti, 10 Noiembrie 2009 — Proiectul de voluntariat CharityGift.ro, primul magazin online in care toate produsele contin o donatie, sarbatoreste primul an de la lansare printr-un concert caritabil. Marti, 17 noiembrie, ora 20.00 in Club Fabrica din Bucuresti se vor aduna toti prietenii si sustinatorii CharityGift.ro pentru un eveniment aniversar caritabil unde vor concerta byron, Alexandrina, Spitalul de Urgenta, Hi-Q si Lu Cozma&Sorin Romanescu.

Concertul marcheaza un an de la infiintarea CharityGift.ro - proiect de marca in ceea ce priveste responsabilizarea individului fata de problemele societatii intr-un mod accesibil si inovativ. Gama larga de produse disponibile pe CharityGift.ro, peste 1500, are un singur scop, ajutarea ONG-urilor partenere pentru a oferi celor aflati in dificultate ajutorul de care au nevoie. Mecanismul prin care functioneaza este unul foarte simlplu si la indemana oricui. Furnizorul produselor alege un ONG catre care doneaza un procent din valoarea acestuia, la vanzare. Merita mentionat faptul ca produsele au aceleasi preturi ca si in magazinele furnizorului.

Trupele care vor concerta, voluntarii CharityGift.ro si prietenii proiectului vor sarbatori offline, iar contravaloarea tuturor biletelor de intrare va fi donata catre un ONG. Acest ONG poate fi ales de catre toti utilizatorii CharityGift.ro pe prima pagina a site-ului, www.charitygift.ro, printr-un sondaj ce va fi afisat in perioada 10-24 noiembrie. Beneficiarii ONG-ului cu cele mai multe voturi stranse vor primi pe 25 noiembrie primul lor cadou de Craciun.

“Primul an de CharityGift ne-a adus doar satisfactii. Nu atat faptul ca ajutam persoane aflate in dificultate si care merita ajutorul nostru, dar mai ales faptul ca implinim un an de munca voluntara si parteneriate cu oameni la fel de dispusi ca noi sa ajute. Sentimentul muncii in echipa cu oameni binevoitori si lupta pentru o cauza sociala este mereu o sursa de energie care ne obliga sa ne facem datoria zi de zi cu placere” a declarat Nicoleta Talpes, initiator proiect CharityGift.ro.

Participant activ in viata proiectului de voluntariat CharityGift.ro, trupa byron s-a conturat la sfarsitul anului 2006. Desi a fost conceputa initial ca un proiect solo, Dan Byron, vocalistul si fondatorul formatiei, a conferit o amploare benefica acestui proiect, recrutandu-i pe 6fingers (clape, voce, chitara acustica), Vlady Sateanu (bas), Costin Oprea (chitara electrica), Cristi Matesan (tobe).

Noul album marca byron, “A Kind Of Alchemy”, este distribuit prin intermediul A&A in reteaua librariilor Carturesti din toata tara si pe www.charitygift.ro, magazinul online in cadrul caruia toate produsele contin o donatie. Trupa byron foloseste celebrele chitare Tanglewood, care le-au fost puse la dispozitie de catre producatori din anul 2008. Aceiasi producatori sustin si formatia Coldplay. Trupa byron doneaza 5% din valoarea CD-urilor vandute prin intermediul platformei CharityGift.ro Asociatiei Culturale ACCES, unul dintre beneficiarii cauzei “arta-cultura”.

Spitalul de urgenta

Trupa Spitalul de urgenta s-a alaturat recent proiectului de voluntariat 100% CharityGift.ro, donand 5% din orice album “F.P.S”, vandut prin charitygift.ro, catre Fundatia pentru SMURD.

Spitalul de urgenta s-a nascut in 2000, tatal ei fiind Dan Helciug, caruia ii apartin conceptul, muzica si textul. Orchestratia originala este asigurata de Victor Panfilov, mentor spiritual, aceasta fiind imbogatita de catre chitaristul Emil Chican. Dan Helciug isi pastreaza umorul si pofta de viata buna si in noul album, “F.P.S.”, in care abordeaza teme evitate in general de trupele mainstream, cantand drespre viata de student, politica si fotbal. Prin ultimul album, Spitalul de urgenta isi dovedeste implicarea adanca in temele de interes ale generatiei actuale.

Alexandrina

Alexandrina Hristov, pe numele ei intreg, este o artista originara din Republica Moldova, a carei activitate se leaga de muzica, pictura si poezie, dar pe care romanii o stiu drept fata care “merge pe jos”, datorita numelui uneia dintre piesele ei. Alexandrina canta in romana, franceza si rusa, iar stilul ei muzical este greu de definit, aflat la confluenta curentelor pop acustic, rock contemporan, alternative, jazz si soul.

Poate aparea pe scena, inarmata cu un pian si cu vocea sa, sau cu o trupa de instrumentisti. Efectul este acelasi: mereu impresioneaza. Primul album al Alexandrinei se numeste "Om de lut" si a fost lansat pe 9 aprilie 2009, reprezentand o colectie de piese vechi si noi . Albumul il puteti gasi si pe CharityGift.ro:

Hi-Q

Trupa Hi-Q este un grup pop romanesc, ce a luat fiinta in 1996 la Brasov. Grupul, format din Anya Buxai, Mihai Sturzu si Florin Grozea, a incercat mereu sa se reinventeze, sa aduca un produs fresh, diferit de muzica difuzata in Romania. Recent, trupa Hi-Q a lansat cel de-al XX-lea single oficial.

Lu Cozma&Sorin Romanescu

Lu Cozma este o cantareata de origine britanica, ce s-a mutat, in urma cu 2 ani, in Bucuresti, unde a continuat sa incante publicul si sa impresioneze artistii locali.

Recent, Lu a fost invitata sa cante pe noul album al trupei byron, ‘A Kind Of Alchemy’.

Lu Cozma va canta la concertul aniversar CharityGift.ro alaturi de Sorin Romanescu, o colaborare ce o va ajuta pe Lu sa dea o nota acustica albumul sau “Red” – promovat acum drept “Acoustic Red”.

Concertul este organizat de CharityGift.ro, este sustinut de Radio Zu, impreuna cu Image Factory, byron Management, club Fabrica, metropotam.ro, eOk.ro, bestmusic.ro, iconcert.ro, muzicabuna.ro, maximum rock, port.ro, adoptaunong.ro, Lume Buna, Kudika, Amelie, Tabu, mayra si Fab.

Nooka este creatia designerului Matthew Waldman, care spune ca ideea de a crea display-ul neconventional Nooka i-a venit in timp ce privea un ceas pe peretele unui hotel din Londra si a realizat cat de putine moduri de a afisa ora s-au folosit de la inventarea orologiului si pana acum. Ca urmare, a creat designul Nooka, care s-a bucurat de un success neasteptat inca de la inceput, ajungand pe mana unor vedete precum Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Pussycat Dolls sau Kanye West.

Waldman insusi recunoaste ca Nooka a fost pozitionat ca un brand de fashion, si nu ca unul de ceasuri, acesta fiind si unul din motivele pentru care in 2004 s-a rupt de Seiko, ce il obliga sa creeze un produs mult mai asemanator cu un ceas traditional.

Mai mult decat atat, ceasurile Nooka nu se vand in magazine clasice, de ceasuri, ci in concept-stores, la muzee de arta precum MoMA sau Pompidou si in magazine hip, de nisa, care comercializeaza produse de serie mica sau unicate.

Citirea ceasurilor este relativ facila, de indata ce te obisnuiesti cu modul de afisare. De regula, orele se impart in 12 puncte, impartite pe doua randuri, minutele si secundele sunt reprezentate de liniute, marcate cu puncte din 5 in 5.

Ideea din spatele acestui tip de produs pare a fi aceea ca, la ora actuala, avem permanent la noi atatea dispozitive care sa ne spuna ce ora e (incepand cu telefonul mobil si terminand cu computerul de bord al masinii) incat ceasul isi pierde destinatia initiala si se transforma intr-un fashion statement. De altfel, chiar si Matthew Waldman afirma ca in opinia lui ceasurile sunt un produs pe moarte, care nu poate supravietui decat ca bijuterie sau obiect vestimentar / accesoriu.

De ce e Nooka deosebit

Ceasurile Nooka sunt foarte simple de fapt, folosind un sistem minimalist de display (limbile ceasurilor normale dispar, fiind inlocuite de puncte sau linii care se aprind, cate una pentru fiecare ora sau minut), sunt foarte asortabile, fiind disponibile intr-o gama variata de culori, de la cele mai sobre la culori tari sau vesele, pot fi mai funky / casual sau mai elegante in functie de materialele folosite: poliuretan, aluminiu, otel inoxidabil sau piele.

Fashion brand, Nooka Inc. has teamed up with legendary artists and toy designers Jeremy Madl, Ilovedust, Shin Tanaka and Matthew Waldman tocommemorate the release of the new mini NookaNooka.

Created by Waldman, the NookaNooka is an urban vinyl collector’s toy, but more importantly acts as a representative for the Nooka brand. Not only is it made of similar materials as other Nooka products, it also represents our innovative approach to design, pushing the limits of creativity and changing the way people think about objects.

The NookaNooka’s physiology is transient, eternal in his world and ephemeral in ours – beyond imagination – like something you are told is not real, like something you can’t taste, but can feel. Jeremy Madl, ilovedust, Shin Tanaka and Matthew Waldman displayed their artistic talent by designing their own custom mini NookaNooka collabs.

Jeremy Madl is the mastermind behind the cult following Mad Toy Design Inc who has collaborated with clients such as Kidrobot and the NFL.

Ilovedust is a renowned design boutique who specializes in brand identity and has worked with the likes of Nike, Coca Cola, as well as others.

Shin Tanaka, based in Japan, is the creator of paper figures inspired by the popular urban vinyl phenomenon and has worked with some of the biggest names in street fashion and designer toys.

Nooka is a New York fashion design company founded by artist/designer Matthew Waldman. Will Alsop

He was a tutor of sculpture at Central St.Martins College, London, and has held many other academic posts. Nascuta dintr-o pasiune, afacerea ClockWise.ro propune un alt tip de shopping pentru iubitorii de ceasuri premium. Daca pana acum clientii unor astfel de produse se duceau in magazine sa isi aleaga accesoriul preferat, acum pot intra simplu pe site si comanda.

ClockWise.ro a fost lansat in luna octombrie 2008, in urma unei investitii de 10.000 de dolari, investitie care a inclus si aducerea primelor doua branduri, Nooka si Alessi, au declarat Andreea Dirzeanu si Catalin Baciu, fondatorii business-ului. Luna ianuarie a insemnat pentru Clockwise aducerea unui nou brand, Lip, printr-o noua investitie. ClockWise negociaza in acest moment acordarea de exclusivitate pentru brandurile Lip si Alessi, pentru Nooka detinand deja acest statut.

Cu toate ca cele trei branduri si-au facut intrarea pe piata intr-o perioada extrem de dificila, oficialii ClockWise sunt foarte optimisti. "Noiembrie si decembrie - primele luni de busines - au fost foarte bune. Cu toate ca actuala ciza financiara ne va afecta intr-o oarecare masura, sunt de parere ca exista si anumite sectoare care nu vor fi atinse, iar unele persoane vor continua sa cumpere", a declarat Andreea Dirzeanu

In ceea ce priveste planurile de viitor, aceasta a subliniat ca anul 2009 va fi anul ce va marca o crestere semnificativa pentru ClockWise. "Suntem in plin proces de selectie a catorva distribuitori pentru produsele noastre, in Bucuresti dar si in provincie", a mai adaugat Andreea Dirzeanu. Chiar daca pentru moment ClockWise se va concentra pe cresterea si promovarea celor 3 branduri pe care le are in portofoliu, ia in calcul si aducerea de noi nume. "Evident, exista un shortlist de cateva modele pe care ne-ar placea sa le reprezentam de asemenea in Romania, insa deocamdata nu stim cu cu exactitate cand si daca acest lucru se va concretiza. Ce va pot spune cu certitudine este ca intentionam sa aducem doar branduri cu design deosebit, care spun o poveste, care te determina sa gandesti altfel si sa privesti lucrurile diferit", a mai adaugat fondatoarea afacerii.

Clientul ClockWise

Ceasurile de la ClockWise se adreseaza unui target tanar, activ, urban, mereu alert, informat si in pas cu tehnologia, de la liceeni pana la oameni ‘seriosi’, pe la 35-40 de ani. "Produsele noastre nu sunt tocmai mainstream, targeteaza o nisa foarte bine delimitata: cei care vor sa fie mereu 'in trend', care au un stil al lor si vor sa fie unici, sa iasa in evidenta fara sa deranjeze, fara sa fie flashy; sunt in general oameni cu mult bun gust si simt estetic, carora le place sa experimenteze", spune oficialul companiei.

Preturile ceasurilor din portofoliul ClockWise sunt cuprinse intre 366 si 1.525 lei, facand diferenta prin designul deosebit. "Sunt produse care reusesc sa iasa in fata cu un design aparte, cu modalitati neconventionale de afisare a orei, sunt creatiile unor designeri renumiti, sunt acele produse pe care le gasesti la shopurile muzeelor de arta contemporana, in concept store-uri si la concursurile de design", a mai adaugat Andreea Dirzeanu.

Cel mai scump produs din portofoliul ClockWise este in acest moment Lip Dark Master (foto dreapta). "Modelul Mach 2000 Chronograph Dark Master are un design clasic, retro. Creat de Roger Tallon in anii '70, acest ceas vintage a beneficiat de un face-lift funky", spune oficialul ClockWise. Acesta are un pret de 1.525 lei.

Procedura pentru achizitionarea unui ceas de pe ClockWise.ro este extrem de simpla. "Intri pe site, iti alegi modelul pe care vrei sa-l comanzi, completezi un formular, il trimiti si gata. Noi primim comanda, sunam clientul pentru confirmare si ii trimitem coletul prin curier", sublinieaza Andreea Dirzeanu.

Si pentru ca produsele de nisa se adreseaza unor clienti sofisticati, ClockWise ofera posibilitatea ca acestia sa vada mai multe modele inainte de a cumpara. "Pentru ca suntem foarte flexibili si incercam sa ajutam cat mai mult clientul ii ducem mai multe produse pentru ca el sa le poata proba si alege exact ce are nevoie", spune reprezentantul ClockWise.

Nooka, Alessi si Lip

Nooka este creatia designerului Matthew Waldman, care spune ca ideea i-a venit in timp ce privea un ceas pe peretele unui hotel din Londra si a realizat cat de putine moduri de a afisa ora s-au folosit de la inventarea orologiului si pana acum. Ca urmare, a creat designul Nooka, ce a prins foarte bine, ajungand pe mana unor vedete precum Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Lil Wayne.

Alessi este un brand italian cu istorie, dar si cu viziune. Pe langa directia sanatoasa a producerii obiectelor de calitate, Alessi s-a concentrat si pe design, investind in creatii care sa redefineasca modul in care oamenii vad si folosesc obiectele. Printre cei care si-au pus numele pe ceasurile Alessi se numara designerii Karim Rashid, Ron Arad, Piero Lissoni, Andrea Branzi, Franco Sargiani, Miriam Mirri, Jorge Pensi, Ettore Sottsass, Stefano Pirovano.

Ceasurile LIP au facut istorie inca din 1867, printre primii sai clienti numarandu-se Churchill, Eisenhower si generalul de Gaulle. Majoritatea modelelor contemporane sunt create in 1975 de Roger Tallon si Prince Francois de Baschmakoff si updatate de Prisca Briquet (designer francez, in prezent creative director la LIP), astfel incat sa poti schimba curelele si sa te joci cu diferite culori.

noo territories: romania

i have written before on the subject of social networks and also a separate post on the different ways communications get to me [via nooka.com, matthewwaldman.com, linked-in, facebook, PR company etc.]

well here is a poster-child for linked-in, the business online community as andreea is someone who initially contacted me there. this turned into a sample order for her online store which then turned into a full-fledged business relationship with her becoming the distributor for nooka in romania!

my fondness for romania goes way back to an early childhood obsession with vampires, and was only strengthened with my professional relationships and moreover, friendship with graphic designer extraordinaire, dan dumitriu in london. i was since told that romanians do not like being referred to as vampires, and in actuality, there are no vampires there – it's like a christian child being told there is no santa claus!

already, andreea has garnered an AMAZING amount of press for nooka in her beautiful country, a sample of which is here. i hope to see nooka grow with the new economies of eastern europe, and really want to go skiing in romania some time soon.

andreea's company is called clockwise, and their site is here. pretty amazing to have a 2 different products featured in a single edition of ELLE magazine, especially for a small brand like mine.

Matthew Waldman is a creative director with over 15 years experience, crafting corporate identities and design systems for a wide array of clients.

His design studio, Berrymatch, creates award winning videos and web work for clients in the U.S., Japan, and the UK.

Now, with Nooka Inc., he turns his talents to develop groundbreaking products - first of them being by now famous time pieces.
Matthew is also an artist and educator, instructing at the Parsons School of Design and the New School University in New York City and exhibiting fine art at galleries around the world.

For 3 years, Pierpont Place has been a preferred venue of the Sundance Film festival and has provided the community an opportunity to get involved to enjoy great talent and music in conjunction to the festival.

The event will be a combination of networking, runway fashion, great music and dancing.

Anticipated attendance will be 300-500 guests including local business an festival audience, media, dignitaries, film and festival industry goers.

This year, Pierpont Place has partnered with Ghostly International to provide “top caliber” DJ talent from Chicago and New York. Webb Audio and Visual is to provide state of the art equipment and Full Nelson is to provide The Fashion Delerium Tour du Jour which is a traveling runway party that showcases cutting-edge designers and their newest fashions featuring Jared Gold designer of Black Chandelear and Baskit Underwear. Jared Gold is expected to make an announcement of a new Television project.

The history of LIP Watch Company dates back to 1807. In this year Emmanuel Lipmann who was based in Besancon, created a chronometer watch which was gifted to Napoleon Bonaparte by the inhabitants of the region. 60 years later, Emmanuel’s grand son Ernest opened an atelier of watch in Besancon. In 1896, the word LIP appeared for the first time while designing the chronometer LIP

In 1914, this brand had a dream opportunity of supplying watches to the artillery officers of the French army. Then came another grand project. The company became the purveyor to the French aviation industry. In 1948 the French government was proud to present a watch of impeccable French technology to Winston Churchill. And for this the government chose an LIP timepiece.

The Mach 2000 and Revival Seventies collections were the brainchild of a revolutionary collective of French industrial designers, architects, interior decorators, and graphic designers. In the 1960s and 1970s, LIP enlisted a handful of these creatives to bring their truly original ideas of timekeeping to life in a series of watches. Among them was the prolific Roger Tallon, who designed everything from high-speed French TGV trains to the 1964 Helicoid Staircase (part of the MoMa Design Collection). Tallon’s LIP designs include the iconic Mach 2000 series.

Seventies Revival Collection:
LIP takes us right back to the 70's to find inspiration for this collection, reviving fundamental values, that made it famous back then; authenticity, innovation and progress.
LIP adopts a fresh and avant garde approach to re-create this unique and highly desirable watch collection. Original works by French design legends, including Roger Tallon and Francois de Baschmakoff, have been revised and enhanced for today's discerning style aficionado.
Minutely detailed research and daring neo-retro design bring this collection to the pinnacle of contemporary design and style.

Mach 2000:
Roger Tallon was at the forefront of contemporary design in 1970's France and beyond, cCreating iconic designs such as the TGV (France's high speed train), helping to build the corporate identity of SNCF (the French national railway system), and designing the Paris RER Underground map, together with developing numerous industrial and consumer products.
In 1974 LIP decided to commemorate a unique period in time by developing a watch to reflect that moment in design history.
LIP chose a designer widely considered to be the best in his field, and who had never before designed a watch; a man with a new and innovative approach, Roger Tallon.
Roger Tallon applied his design and material knowledge and expertise to LIP, creating the Mach 2000 collection, which went on to become a distinctive design icon of 1970's France and French watch-making.
